Uche Nnaji, the Federal Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, proudly unveiled the National Policy on Welding today, addressing the historical neglect within the sector.

Despite boasting over a million welders, Nigeria suffers a staggering annual loss of $10 billion due to the absence of international certification, impeding the progress of local professionals.

In a strategic move, the ministry aims to combat this issue by introducing the National Policy on Welding and establishing Centers of Welding Excellence in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Welding across the six geopolitical zones. This initiative aligns seamlessly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s #RenewedHope Agenda, targeting the acceleration of industrialization and bolstering local welders in critical sectors.

Endorsed by the Federal Executive Council, the policy marks a significant stride toward enhancing local content utilization, job creation, and advancing industrialization efforts. Recognizing the pivotal role of welding in Nigeria’s development, the ministry aspires to standardize practices, elevate quality standards, and stimulate innovation within the welding sector.

Truth Live News reports that Hon Uche Nnaji emphasized seizing the opportunities presented by this policy to foster a self-sufficient and globally competitive Nigerian welding industry.

This move will see more Nigerian male find suitable paying jobs in the manufacturing and oil sectors, both home and abroad
