In a revelation following the triumphant 2023 AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles showcased their prowess, emerging as champions, Nigerian-born striker Adebayo is contemplating his international future.

The 26-year-old footballer, who currently plays for a top European club, expressed his desire to represent either Nigeria or England in international football.

Adebayo’s preference for the Nigerian national team stems from a heartfelt desire to make his mother proud.

In a recent interview with The Times, he stated, “I would like to play for Nigeria. It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about. Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.”

The forward’s decision seems to be influenced significantly by his mother’s wish for him to don the green and white colors of Nigeria, a sentiment he seems eager to honor. However, the player also leaves the door open for the possibility of representing England if the opportunity arises first.

The potential addition of Adebayo to the Super Eagles roster would undoubtedly bolster the team’s attacking prowess. With established talents like Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, Terem Moffi, and Paul Onuachu, the Nigerian squad could see a formidable offensive force capable of making waves on the international stage.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is likely to be keenly monitoring Adebayo’s decision-making process, as his inclusion in the national team could add a dynamic dimension to their future campaigns. The prospect of securing a player of Adebayo’s caliber represents an exciting development for Nigerian football enthusiasts.
