The Nigerian Police have released Pastor Bolaji Idowu, the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), following interventions by influential figures from the Aso Rock Villa, the seat of Nigeria’s government, and prominent clerics across the country.
Pastor Idowu had been arrested earlier on Tuesday by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja over allegations of involvement in a N1.5 billion fraud. Initial reports indicated that he was set to spend the night in police custody as investigations into the matter continued.
However, according to Sahara Reporters, Pastor Idowu’s release came late Tuesday evening after significant pressure was exerted by key figures in Aso Rock and senior members of the clergy.
A high-ranking police source disclosed, “Pastor Bolaji was released after top pastors and officials from President Tinubu’s administration intervened.” The source further revealed that Pastor Idowu has been instructed to repay the funds traced to his account within two weeks.
