In a move aimed at cost-cutting, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the sale of its Falcon 900B aircraft, a part of the presidential air fleet. The decision, approved by the Federal Government, is detailed in a flyer shared on the NAF’s X page. Interested parties are invited to submit bids via email or physical submission, adhering to the Public Procurement Act 2007.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the sale of Falcon 900B aircraft owned by the Nigerian Air Force,” the announcement stated. Bidders are instructed to submit password-protected emails to dproc@airforce.mil.ng, with the password sent separately to dproc2@airforce.miI.ng. Physical submissions must be sealed with a deadline set for December 24, 2023.
Truth Live News reports that the move follows widespread criticism of the government’s extravagant spending amid economic hardship. Selling the presidential aircraft is seen as a positive step, aligning with cost-saving measures. This decision may help address public concerns about financial responsibility during challenging times. The bids will undergo immediate processing post the submission deadline, indicating a swift resolution to the sale.
The sale of a high-profile asset like the Falcon 900B reflects the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and may contribute to restoring public confidence in its financial management. However, the impact on the overall economic situation remains to be seen as the government balances symbolic gestures with comprehensive economic strategies.
