The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kano State has criticized the Federal Government’s proposed palliative measures to offset the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy, calling it “deceptive.”

The chapter has joined its national body in a nationwide protest to express its dissatisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies and their impact on the masses.

NLC Kano State Chairman, Kabiru Inuwa, made it clear that the union is not a political party and will never play politics with the lives of Nigerians.

According to Inuwa, the committees established by the government to address fuel subsidy removal, wages, and other issues did not hold any meetings, and he criticized Tinubu’s nationwide address following the strike threat.

“Tinubu should allow the masses to breathe,” he said, urging the government to share the promised palliatives immediately and to start implementing the policies and programs they want to implement.

In response, the protesters chanted that they do not want palliatives and demanded the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy regime.

The State Secretary to the Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, earlier created a scene by blocking the protesting members of the NLC, who were on their way to the Government House.

The protesters shouted at him and refused to let him address them before they reached their destination.

At the Government House roundabout, Bichi promised to forward the NLC’s demands to the State Governor for onward transmission to the Federal Government.
