Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, emphasizes the necessity for Nigerians to own firearms amidst escalating insecurity.

Truth Live News gathered that Senator Nwoko outlined his proposed bill on self-defense and firearm regulation, emphasizing stringent eligibility criteria requiring mental fitness certification from two medical professionals.

Addressing concerns, Nwoko clarified, “My bill prioritizes a rigorous process for civilian firearm ownership, not unrestricted access.” He advocates for structured measures, proposing the establishment of gun shooting schools in every local government area, supervised by former military personnel, to provide mandatory training. The process entails certification from local authorities, medical experts, and law enforcement, ensuring thorough vetting.

Highlighting the urgency of his proposal, Nwoko cited widespread insecurity and deficiencies in existing security measures. He voiced apprehension over the lack of support for ordinary citizens from law enforcement agencies, lamenting, “The common man is left to fend for himself, without adequate police assistance.”

Nwoko’s stance is gaining momentum among internet users, as incidents of kidnapping and terrorism continue to rise unchecked.
