Nigeria has been selected by the Confederations of African Volleyball (CAVB) to host the 2022 Girls’ U19 African Nations Volleyball Championship scheduled to hold from August 30 to September, 2022.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) which was to announce the welcome development, it noted that the event on the above date will take place in Abuja.
While the West African country is slated to host the Girls’ U19 African Nations Volleyball Championship, the North African country Morocco will host the Boys’ U19 edition in Casablanca from September 1- 12, 2022.
Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation and Chairman of Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission, Engineer Musa Nimrod said last week Saturday that the federation is working round the clock in order to ensure that Nigeria does not miss Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nimrod disclosed this at the end of the National Beach Volleyball Tour (Round 1) in Yola, Adamawa State.
According to NVBF President, the beach volleyball tour will ensure that Nigeria players are fit before major African Championships and International outings.
Nimrod said:
“the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission decided to commence the National Beach Volleyball Tour this year because the aim is for Nigeria to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“Nigeria narrowly missed participating in the Olympics twice; Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Nigeria placed second in 2016 behind Egypt and second in 2020 behind Kenya.
“The federation is trying to allow new players to make the country proud and coming to Yola for the Round 1 of the National Beach Volleyball Tour is not a mistake, it is by divine intervention,” he claimed.
The NVBF President told Nigerians to expect more explosive and good performances in the second and third rounds later this year.
He continued:
“I am assuring Nigerians that the second and third rounds of the beach volleyball tour will be more exciting and rougher. The second round will be in the South-South while the third round will come up in the South West.
“The tour has allowed young players to showcase their talents and that is the pride of Nigeria Volleyball Federation.
“I am assured that with what I am seeing on the beach volleyball tour, we are going back to our rightful position in Africa. Our current rankings might not be encouraging but I believe that we will return to the summit, particularly our male teams.
“Nigeria will be attending the African Senior Beach Nations Cup in Morocco by the end of this month and I am assuring you that the boys will give their best,” Nimrod reiterated.
