Nigerian Footballer Bags 12 Years In Jail Over Internet Fraud

A Nigerian footballer, Jacob Wisdom Chukwuemeka was on Monday sentenced to six years in jail by a Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State over internet fraud.

Chukwuemeka who was dragged before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, was arraigned on two counts bordering on possession of funds acquired fraudulently.

The EFCC Head Media and Publicity Wilson Uwujaren disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday said the footballer was convicted and sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the two counts “owing to his arraignment with the commission”.

The presiding judge, Justice Muhammed Sani found the suspect guilty and sentenced him to six years for each count, adding that the sentence will run concurrently.
