In order to check the activities of quackery, Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Surveyor (NIS), Edo State branch, Mr. Bruno Odaro Igbinovia, said the association has arrested five persons for parading themselves as surveyors in the state.

He said this while fielding questions from newsmen during a rally to mark the 2024 World Surveyors Day in Benin City.

Bruno said that the issue of quackery has been a major challenge in the sector but that, the association is making all efforts to get rid of it or reduce it to the barest minimum in the state.

“Quackery is an issue in all professions but in survey, we are doing our best to ensure that the quacks are pushed out of the system.

“Today as we speak, we have five cases in the police headquarters, Zone 5, Benin where we have been able to arrest five quacks.

“And about two weeks ago, we invaded them at the secretariat building where they normally go to hang around to defraud people.

“The quacks are always there but we will do all our best to make sure we reduce them.

” For today, we have the customized paper that we are using and which is the innovation that we have brought into the profession, where the survey paper, it must contain the security codes. This is all geared to check quackery in the sector.

The group who were at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Edo State Council, for a rally, said the theme of this year’s celebration is “Marking out resilient communities and the wealth of the nation”

Responding, the chairman, NUJ, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, commended their contributions to the nation’s development and urged them to sustain the tempo.

He further decried the incessant attack on them in the course of their duty in the bush.
