Nigerian Midfielder, Ethan Nwaneri Signs Professional Contract With Arsenal

England-born Nigerian midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has penned his first professional contract with Arsenal, the club announced on Thursday.

The Gunners confirmed the signing on their website, highlighting Nwaneri’s impressive journey through the club’s academy ranks since joining in May 2015.

“Having been a vital player in all our age categories, the 17-year-old midfielder has made significant contributions, featuring in 14 appearances across all academy competitions this season and netting 14 goals,” the statement read.

Nwaneri’s progression into first-team football was also noted, with his notable substitute appearance in Arsenal’s 6-0 Premier League triumph over West Ham United in February 2024.

Making history in September 2022 as the youngest player to feature in an English top-flight match at just 15 years and 181 days, Nwaneri’s potential has been evident from a young age.

Academy Manager and former Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker expressed pride in Nwaneri’s development, emphasizing his ball mastery, possession dominance, and effectiveness in the final third.

“Ethan’s journey now continues, and we will all be there alongside him to support his development,” Mertesacker stated. “He is someone that will thrive on and off the pitch as a Strong Young Gunner, and we look forward to working with him during his ongoing development in the years to come.”
