The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has issued a weather forecast predicting a mix of sunshine and clouds from Monday to Wednesday across the country.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, anticipates a cloudy atmosphere on Monday with intermittent periods of sunshine across the northern region.
The agency also foresees the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by rain in several states in the morning, including Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa.
As the day progresses, NiMet expects scattered thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over parts of Kebbi, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Kaduna States. In the North Central region, the forecast includes a cloudy atmosphere with the potential for morning thunderstorms in some areas.
NiMet predicts thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Kwara States during the afternoon and evening hours.
Moving to the South and the coastal belt, the agency expects a cloudy atmosphere and the likelihood of morning thunderstorms in states like Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, it anticipates thunderstorms and moderate rains over other southern states.
On Tuesday, NiMet forecasts cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine in the Northern region. Thunderstorms are expected in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kano, Gombe, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Bauchi States in the morning, with more thunderstorms predicted for the afternoon and evening in some of these areas.
In the North Central region, cloudy skies are expected with prospects of thunderstorms over some states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau States.
In the South, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are predicted for Tuesday morning, with the possibility of isolated rains in some states. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected to cover the entire southern region.
Moving on to Wednesday, NiMet’s forecast includes cloudy skies with sunshine intervals over the Northern region in the morning.
Thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa States later in the day.
The North Central region is expected to have a cloudy morning, followed by thunderstorms in parts of Benue, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa States, and the Federal Capital Territory later in the day.
The South and its coastal states will experience a cloudy atmosphere in the morning, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms and moderate rains expected to affect the entire region. NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions, especially due to the possibility of flash floods.
Additionally, NiMet warns of strong winds accompanying the thunderstorms and advises citizens to prioritize safety. Disaster risk managers, agencies, and individuals are encouraged to be proactive during the rainy season to prevent loss of lives and property.
Airline operators are also urged to stay informed about weather reports and alerts from NiMet to effectively plan their operations.
