Workers of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have shut down the head office of the service in Abuja, protesting the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General.

The appointment was made public by Ajuri Ngelale, a Presidential spokesman, who recently announced new and returning Chief Executives for various agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, including NIPOST.

However, shortly after Odeyemi’s appointment was disclosed, reports emerged indicating that Adeyemi Adepoju, the previously dismissed Postmaster-General, had been reinstated.

In a viral video, Adepoju was seen addressing some workers who claimed he had been reappointed.

In an earlier statement issued by NIPOST on Friday, Adepoju alleged that President Bola Ahmed had reappointed him as the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST.

Adepoju, who had been appointed just a year ago during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, was initially supposed to serve a five-year term but was dismissed last week.

The protesting NIPOST workers, expressing their preference for Adepoju, prevented the newly appointed NIPOST CEO from entering the premises, stating that her appointment was contrary to their wishes.

They engaged in chants of solidarity and displayed posters at the entrance of the NIPOST headquarters in Abuja, bearing slogans such as “Sunday Adepoju, we know” and “No Sunday, No NIPOST… No way for Cabal,” among others.
