Toba Owojaiye reporting
Abuja, Nigeria
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has unleashed a scathing critique of the latest unemployment figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), describing the report as a “shameless fabrication” that dangerously distorts Nigeria’s harsh economic realities.
Truth Live News gathered that that Chris Onyeka, the National Assistant General Secretary of the NLC, minced no words in denouncing the report as a “voodoo document” that grossly contradicts the struggles faced daily by millions of Nigerians. “This so-called report is nothing but a figment of imagination, concocted to deceive the public and mask the dire state of the economy,” Onyeka thundered.
He lambasted the claim of falling unemployment rates, calling it a “brazen insult” to Nigerians enduring factory closures, skyrocketing inventories, and crumbling consumer spending. “How can unemployment be dropping when our factories are shutting down and our economy is bleeding jobs? This is outright deceit!” he fumed.
Onyeka further decried the methodology employed by the NBS, accusing the agency of peddling manipulated data to paint a rosy picture. “These figures are not just inaccurate—they are an outright mockery of the suffering masses. Such blatant lies erode public trust and undermine any hope for meaningful reforms,” he said.
The NLC warned that the growing disparity between the report and the visible struggles on the ground signals an alarming disregard for accountability and truth. “This is not just a statistical error; it is a calculated assault on the integrity of governance,” Onyeka concluded, urging Nigerians to reject the report as an insult to their intelligence.
The Organized Private Sector echoed the NLC’s outrage, labeling the NBS report as disconnected from the brutal realities of Nigeria’s economic downturn.
