In the latest twists of political comedy in Nigeria, Truth Live News reports the absurdity of the current crisis rocking the Labour Party. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recently made headlines by storming the party’s secretariat in protest of the upcoming national convention, slated for the end of this month.
According to a circular issued by the NLC, members were directed to picket all Labour Party offices nationwide in response to what they perceive as a disregard for their leadership and allegations of financial recklessness by the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure. Comrade Titus Amba and Comrade Chris Uyot, Chairperson and Secretary of the NLC Political Commission respectively, jointly signed the circular.
“We bring you fraternal greetings from the Nigeria Labour Congress,” the circular stated. “Given the intransigence of the National Chairman…financial rascality and contempt for the leadership of the NLC, the NLC State Councils and State Political Committees should mobilise workers to picket all the State Secretariats of the Labour Party.”
The protest, demanding Abure’s removal, has escalated tensions within the Labour Party. Workers accuse Abure of plotting to dismantle the party, leading to a showdown between him, the NLC, and the House of Representatives caucus.
As we dissect this political saga, we can’t help but marvel at the comedic elements within the chaos. From the dramatic showdowns at party secretariats to the impassioned demands for leadership changes, it’s like watching a political sitcom unfold in real life.
The NLC had defended the Labour Party at every turn, however they have hung the National Chairman to dry on this one after he has been enmeshed in one scandal after another.
