The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a statement seen by Truth Live News, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, described the president’s action as unconstitutional, arbitrary, and a dangerous precedent.
The NNPP argued that the situation in Rivers State did not warrant a state of emergency and that the president’s decision was motivated by political interests.
The party questioned the president’s understanding of the long-term implications of his actions and his ability to rule a complex country like Nigeria.
The NNPP urged the presidency to reverse its decision and called on members of the National Assembly to reject what it described as a “presidential coup” against the democratically elected government of Rivers State.
The party also warned Nigerians to remain vigilant against any measures that could jeopardize the country’s democracy.
