Lawyers, under the auspice of the Concerned Northern Forum, have pledged to pursue legal action against the Federal Government, seeking just compensation for the victims affected by the military airstrikes that ravaged Tudun Biri in Kaduna State, resulting in the tragic loss of over 120 lives during Maulud celebrations last Sunday night.
Barrister Nafi’u Abubakar, speaking on behalf of the Northern Lawyers Forum, emphasized their commitment to ensuring that families who suffered immeasurable loss in this unfortunate incident receive proper justice.
Addressing reporters in Kaduna on Saturday, Nafi’u urged the Federal Government to take swift and resolute steps towards a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the tragedy.
“It’s crucial for those accountable to face consequences, and it’s imperative to implement measures preventing the recurrence of such tragedies in the future,” he stated.
Furthermore, Nafi’u emphasized the necessity for the Nigerian Army to reassess its rules of engagement and training protocols, highlighting the paramount importance of exercising caution during military operations to avert civilian casualties and collateral damage.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the forum extended heartfelt condolences and assured unwavering support in their pursuit of justice.
“We stand in solidarity with those grieving, and we are resolute in our commitment to ensuring justice prevails. The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum will exhaust all legal avenues to secure rightful compensation for the victims,” Nafi’u concluded.
