Professor Jimoh Habibat Isah, Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), Kogi State Chapter, has stated that the 2023 census exercise was not cancelled but postponed due to logistical issues.
According to Daily trust report, Truthlive news learnt that the commissioner made the statement at a luncheon meeting with media executives.
At the meeting, Isah expressed the commission’s appreciation to the media in the state for sustained partnership and collaboration with the agency to achieve its desired results.
According to him, the federal government cannot afford to lose N200 billion by failing to carry out the planned population census.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he claimed, is a knowledgeable leader who “won’t permit such a whopping amount of money to be swept under the carpet.
Although, Professor Isah deemed the exercise’s suspension to be timely and appropriate, he emphasized that it will give the commission a chance to put things into proper perspective.
Also speaking at the meeting, Alhaji Adeiza Momoh, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), assured the panel that all journalists in the state would be fully supportive.
