The Nigerian Television Authority’s (NTA) female Journalist Mrs Archibong Bassey has been elected the first female chairman of the Cross River State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.
Truth Live News reports that Archibong was elected on Thursday May 9, 2024, in al Congress held at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar.
She took over from Comrade Nsa Gill who has been appointed Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sen. Bassey Edet Otu some months back.
Meanwhile, as a member of the NTA Chapel she was elected alongside other chapels’ members.
They include Comrade Sunday Inah of Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) Chapel as Vice Chairman.
Comrade Michael Abang of Cross River Correspondents Chapel as Secretary.
Also, Comrade Ekong Okpa of Cross River Chronicle Chapel was elected as Financial Secretary.
Their tenure will come to an end in July 2025.
The Special Congress presided by the NUJ South South Zonal Vice President, reached a consensus that produced the first female chairman in the state.
Meanwhile, the outgoing chairman Comrade Nsa Gill highlighted some of the things he has been able to achieve.
He said they include a successful hosting of Media week which has been held for decades.
In addition, he intimated the new leadership that the Council’s bank account is not empty.
For the check up account comrade Gill said there is over N400,000 left in the account by his tenure.
Moreso, he used the occasion to advise the incoming leadership to develop a listening ear especially for those who always want to prove their points.
Therefore, In her acceptance speech the new chairman Archibong Bassey, promised to operate an open door policy and commended everyone for having confident in her.
