The US and South Korea have finalized plans to create joint guidelines for a nuclear defense strategy by the middle of the upcoming year.

They aim to establish a unified system to deter North Korea’s nuclear weapons.

According to media, citing South Korea’s deputy National Security adviser, Kim Tae-hyo, the comprehensive guideline will cover information sharing on North Korea’s nuclear weapons, crisis management procedures, and direct communication channels between both countries’ leaders.

Additionally, the joint military drills scheduled for the upcoming year are likely to involve exercises focused on nuclear operations.

Kim noted the potential threat of North Korea test-launching an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) this month, underscoring the danger it poses regardless of its range due to its capacity to carry a nuclear warhead.

North Korea’s advancement in developing and testing ballistic missiles capable of reaching South Korea, Japan, and the mainland USA remains a concern.
