The Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has tasked corps members posted to the state for their one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on their indelible contributions to
sustainable development of the nation by fostering workable
solutions to the felt needs of their host communities.
He gave the task at the 2024 Batch “B” Stream I Orientation Course held at Okada.
Mr Obaseki said the orientation course, which is the first phase of their service year is
crucial in preparing them for the enormous task of nation building adding that, it offers them the opportunity to develop mentally, emotionally, psychologically and will expose them to the various issues on loyalty, patriotism, national leadership, good governance, development aspirations as well as the tradition and culture of the people of the state.
The governor, represented by the Director of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs Aiyegbeni Balogun A., urged them to be optimistic, opening minded and make the best use of the opportunity to serve with commitment wherever they will be in the course of their one year national service.
Obaseki said they should be rest assured that they will be faced with several opportunities and challenges but that, he is confident that the orientation course content is carefully developed to equip them with the necessary skill-set needed to turn these challenges into success stories.
He further advised them to shun acts that could endanger their lives or bring the scheme to public
embarrassment.
He encouraged them also to key into the economic diversification
programme of the Edo State Government, by aligning themselves with
the various skills programmes offered by the Edo Skills Development
Agency (Edo Jobs).
On the part of the state coordinator of the scheme, Mrs. Ben Ushie Frances IFeoma, she said at the close of registration by midnight of 30″ June, 2024, a total of 1459 Corps members comprising 594
male and 865 female have been duly registered and are ready to be
sworn in as Corps members of the NYSC scheme.
