In a commitment to prioritize the empowerment and development of young people in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki announced that his government would continue to invest in ensuring that the youth are adequately equipped with the necessary skills and tools to fulfill their potential.
Governor Obaseki made this declaration during a visit to the Edo State Library Complex in Benin City, where he and other government officials rallied in support of Osariemen Angel Asein, a local resident attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon reading aloud by an individual.
As of the governor’s visit, Osariemen Asein had already surpassed the current record, having read for an impressive 207 hours since commencing the challenge on February 23, 2024.
Accompanied by his wife, Betsy, and key government functionaries including Special Adviser on Media Project Crusoe Osagie, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, Commissioner for Digital Economy Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, Commissioner for Education Joan Osa-Oviawe, and Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Tourism Uyi Jennifer Oduwa-Malaka, Governor Obaseki spoke to journalists about the significance of Osariemen’s endeavor.
“The vision of Osariemen aligns well with what our administration has done in the State in the last seven years, developing the reading culture of our young ones and re-enacting the education system, particularly basic education,” stated Governor Obaseki.
Expressing his excitement and pride in Osariemen’s achievement, the governor urged citizens to support her quest, emphasizing the global competitiveness and aspirational nature of Edo’s youth.
Governor Obaseki also welcomed Prof. Demas Nwoko, an esteemed architect, at the library, acknowledging his significant contributions to architecture globally. Highlighting the Oba Akenzua Cultural Center, one of Prof. Nwoko’s works, Governor Obaseki expressed gratitude for the architect’s support and affirmed plans to complete the center as part of the burgeoning cultural district in Edo State.
The governor concluded by stating, “There can’t be a greater reward for our administration than what this young lady is doing. I am asking all of you to support her in this quest as we are here to support her. It’s quite gratifying and fulfilling.”
