We want to “ensure food security” as quickly as possible, the Cross River State Governor Sen Bassey Edet Otu has announced.
Gov. Otu said: “Once there is food security, there is a guarantee for the security of almost every other segment of society.”
His announcement came when the Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon. Bello Goronyo, visited him in Calabar, south south Nigeria.
Otu said they are carrying out feasibility studies on two or three locations and are open to more River Basins.
The Governor said they need the Federal Ministry of Agriculture support and also seek collaborations with relevant MDAs to enable them achieve their set objectives.
“My team was in Calabar on a familiarisation visit of the River Basin,” the Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon. Bello Goronyo, explained.
Goronyo said there are several projects to be carried out by his ministry in partnership with the state government.
“I assure you of my ministry’s support for the delivery of projects that would enhance the living standard of the people,” the Minister said.
