A Nigerian Born UK Doctor has been accused of being complicit in the attempt of Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, to traffick 21-year-old into the United Kingdom and harvest his kidneys for their daughter without his consent.
The doctor, Obinna Obeta who reportedly lives in Southwark in South London was charged under the Modern Slavery Act with arranging the travel of the 21-year-old man with dubious intent of harvesting his organ.
Recall that the UK authorities had arrested and detained Ekweremadu and his wife after a doctor raised alarm that the couple allegedly deceive a young man and illegally brought him into the country to harvest his kidney.
The couple were arrested at Heathrow Airport on June 21 after arriving on a flight from Turkey.
Similarly, the Fifty-year-old defendant was conspiring with the Ekweremadu and wife to arrange or facilitate the travel of the man with a view to him being exploited, namely organ harvesting.
Obeta had appeared in Bexley Magistrates’ Court on July 13, while arguments in the case were heard on Friday.

After their arrest by the London Metropolitan Police, the Nigerian Senator and his wife appeared before a UK court which ordered that they should be remanded in custody till July 7 while investigations continued into the allegations against them.
The donor who was initially thought to be 15, was said to have refused to agree to the procedure after undergoing tests at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, north-west London, UK.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in a statement, said it issued an international passport indicating his age as 21 after due process.
The victims real age was discovered after a Federal High Court in Abuja on July 1 directed that the NIS, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and two commercial banks to release the details of the said victim in their possession to Ekweremadu and his wife.
The Westminster Magistrates’ Court ruled that the kidney donor was not a minor after confirming his age as 21.
The court had adjourned the case till August 4 when Ekweremadu, Beatrice, and Obeta are expected to appear at the Old Bailey for hearing.
