Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has told the embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu that he must resign immediately if he is unable to settle the grievances with the main opposition party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Ortom made this assertion on Friday in Makurdi, the state capital while addressing members of the press after an Exco meeting of his government.
He insisted that the only option left for the chairman, his kinsman is to settle with everyone in the party or resign if he has failed in that responsibility.
Recall that the embattled national chairman, senator Iyorchia Ayu has been engrossed in a battle of survival in the party since after the May national convention of the party upon the demand of his resignation by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and four other governors.
Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had demanded that the National chairman, Ayu must step down as he had promised he would resign once a northerner is elected as the presidential candidate of the party.
Truthlive.net also reported that some members of National working Committee of the party refunded over one hundred million Naira said to have been paid into their bank accounts by the chairman as there were allegations of financial improprieties brought against the Ayu by the Rivers state governor, Wike and others.
Ortom said: “You said it with you mouth that you would resign if the party elected a northerner as our presidential candidate, why don’t you be a man of integrity, honouring your word and resign, or appeal for understanding.”
“This is what you do, resign or beg for understanding not going about saying that you were elected for a four year tenure, be a man of integrity and resign”.
