Oshiomhole the Chivalrous – By John Mayaki

I have seen the fast trending video which I describe as nothing short of “bolekaja” politics – the crude, thuggish tactics typical of rascals, touts, and “Agberos” in motor parks. And now, disgracefully, it’s being showcased by a former governor of Edo State and a sitting Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We were raised to know that real men don’t publicly engage in petty squabbles with women. In any decent setting, a woman from the camp being referred to should have countered the comment by our First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki who didn’t even mention anybody’s name. But instead, Oshiomhole, in a shameless display of desperation, took it upon himself to descend into the gutter.

What Oshiomhole said is beyond the pale – it transcends politics and dives into the depths of insensitivity. For a man to stoop so low as to mock a woman’s childlessness is not only vile but unforgivable.

Age should bring wisdom, but in Oshiomhole’s case, it has only exposed his lack of it – a disgrace to old age and everything it should represent.

We cannot, and must not, downplay this heartless, irresponsible, reckless, and profoundly insensitive remarks made by this so-called elder statesman. Oshiomhole has reduced himself to a mere mouthpiece of desperation – a role beneath even the most unprincipled of godfathers.

In any civilized society, such a reprehensible statement would be the nail in the coffin for his puppet candidate’s campaign, costing him millions of votes. This must stop!
