A legal storm has been stirred in the Edo State political arena as solicitors representing Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the upcoming election, have formally notified Senator Adams Aliu Oshiomole of legal proceedings. .
The solicitors, led by Ayo Asala (SAN) and Associates, are demanding a full retraction and unreserved apology for what they describe as “malicious and slanderous statements” made by Oshiomole against Ighodalo.
The legal notice centers on remarks Oshiomole allegedly made during an interview on Arise News’ Morning Show on August 7, 2024. These remarks, deemed defamatory by Ighodalo’s legal team, were widely circulated across social media platforms such as ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, and Facebook.
The solicitors’ letter demands that Oshiomole issue a private letter of apology to Ighodalo, along with a public retraction to be published on Arise TV and in two national dailies, Vanguard and This Day. Failure to comply with these demands could see Oshiomole facing more intense legal consequences as the Edo gubernatorial race heats up.
