In response to Asisat Oshoala’s departure from Barcelona, UEFA, the European football governing body, has issued a statement recognizing her exit.
Barcelona officially announced the agreement on Thursday, confirming a deal with the US National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Bay FC. The reported transfer fee for this move is estimated to be $162,000.
UEFA shared their acknowledgment on their women’s Champions League X handle, praising Oshoala as the “first African international to lift the UWCL” and noting her departure from Barcelona after a five-year stint with the club.
Oshoala, in turn, took to her Instagram page to express her sentiments regarding the move. “Barça will always hold a special place in my heart. I will carry with me the memories, lessons, and friendships that I have gained during my time here.”
Over the course of her remarkable five years at Barcelona, Oshoala netted an impressive 117 goals.
The Super Falcons striker leaves behind a legacy of success, having secured 14 titles with the Spanish women’s giants, including two Champions Leagues, four Leagues, three Queen’s Cups, four Spanish Super Cups, and one Catalan Cup.
