In a major boost for infrastructure development, the Federal Government has flagged off the construction of a N12 billion, 56-kilometer road in Eti-Oni, Atakumosa East Local Government Area of Osun State.
Truth Live News gathered that the project, which marks the first intervention in 40 years, aims to open up economically strategic regions, facilitating the movement of agricultural produce and enhancing economic growth.
Speaking during the ceremony, Minister of Works David Umahi, represented by Mr. Oluseyi Adedipe, Acting Controller of Works for Osun, emphasized that the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The phased construction is set for completion within 12 months and is expected to transform Eti-Oni, a major cocoa-producing town, by boosting commerce and reducing logistical challenges for farmers.
“The joy, the happiness is tremendous and we cannot explain it because this road has been neglected for more than 40 years.
“When you have a fertile land but without access, it is like a cemetery and that is how this place looks like before, but it is coming back to life.
“What we are witnessing today is a renewed hope for the future generations and I believe with this happening now, many youths will be incentivized to be able to come into agriculture”, he said.
Oba Dokun Thompson, the Oloni of Eti-Oni, expressed profound gratitude, describing the project as a “renewed hope for future generations.” He highlighted the transformative impact on the town, which has long struggled with access issues despite its fertile lands.
“When you have a fertile land but without access, it is like a cemetery,” Oba Thompson noted. “This road is bringing Eti-Oni back to life, and we believe it will inspire our youth to embrace agriculture.”
The road construction coincides with the town’s cocoa festival, underscoring its agricultural heritage. Chief Musibau Gbadamosi, a local resident, lauded the Federal Government’s initiative, emphasizing the potential to unlock the region’s economic potential.
This project is a landmark for Osun State and a testament to President Tinubu’s administration’s
