In what appears to be a total backfire on the presidential candidate, All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over his recent ‘labour to death’ comment in Osun State during a political rally, netizens, largely the youth population, have responded with a viral #labourchallenge on twitter and other social media handles, where people post their occupation ending the post with ‘there is dignity in labour’.
Recall that Tinubu, while in Osun for a campaign rally ahead tomorrow’s governorship election had taken time out to lash out at the Labour Party, LP’s presidential candidate Peter Obi, even though the biggest challenger to APC in the state, according pundits, is the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
As part of his campaign, the former governor of Lagos had said that those in Labour Party will labour to death.
Though Obi, in Osun, while campaigning for the LP candidate had turned the other cheek at the mobid remark from Tinubu, he however left the audience with the sound bite that there is ‘dignity in Labour’.
Obi has a strong followership on the net which appears to be a rave. And for many of them, turning the other cheek isn’t an option.
“It’s only a man, who steals for a living or take pride in stealing that will not see any dignity in labour,” responded Temu Osirim, with the twitter handle, @MrTemu.
He is just one out myriads of those who followed with the #labourchallenge.
Praise @Akustunning has this to say:
“I’m a banker who works from 7am-5pm to ensure that my customers (Nigerians) are duly satisfied.
I”‘m determined to work hard for my future because there is dignity in Labour”
Gbade Segun @IbileMADE, showing a picture of a piece of his farm added,
“There’s dignity in Labour.
“I shall not labour in vain.”
Toheeb Adigun, @ToheebAdigun2, added a touch of pidgin. #ThereisDignityin Labour, Na plumber we be.
“we no kee [kill]person.
“We will not labour in vain,” he said.
