Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has promised to support victims of the devastating fire that ravaged parts of Aleshinloye market in Ibadan.
The governor visited the scene of the inferno on Wednesday, where he commiserated with traders who lost properties in the fire outbreak.
Truth live reports that the fire, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira.
Fortunately, no lives were lost.
Makinde, represented by his Deputy, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, assured traders that the government would provide immediate support once a full report of the incident is received.
To prevent such incidents in the future, Makinde directed the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the LCDA to ensure adequate security measures are in place at the market.
“We have come and seen and we have also met with market men and women.
“The fire was aggravated because of the kind of trade (plastic business).
“So, you can expect that it would spread like a wildfire.
“Nevertheless, We thank God Almighty that no life was lost.
” As a government, we will do the needfuyin terms of immediate support through the Oyo state Emergency Management Agency (Oyo SEMA).”
The government plans to work with the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (Oyo SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide support to the victims.
