As Christians around the world celebrate Palm Sunday today, the Edo Central Senatorial District Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on christians worldwide to take a moment to pray for the safe return of Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the state chairman of PDP, who is currently held captive by kidnappers.
Recall that Dr Aziegbemi was abducted by some gunmen at about 11 pm on Friday, 15 March, just few meters to his GRA residence in Benin City, the Edo state capital, after attending a political meeting at the State Government House.
In a heartfelt letter signed by the Senatorial chairman, Archbishop Dr. Anthony Okosun, and Barrister L. Ogedegbe KSM, the party expresses deep concern for Dr. Aziegbemi’s prolonged ordeal. They appeal for his release without harm.
The party also takes the opportunity to commend the efforts of the state governor, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, and other security agencies in addressing the situation. They further appeal to the governor and security agencies to intensify their efforts for the swift and unconditional release of Dr. Tony Aziegbemi.
The letter read: “Edo Central PDP Senatorial District is appealing to all Christian all over the world to use today’s Palm Sunday to reflect and pray for the quick release of our State party Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi unhurt.
Edo Central PDP Senatorial district is very worried and pained for the continued hostage of our Son and State Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi in the hands of kidnappers. We appreciate the efforts of our State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and all relevant security agencies.
We are using this media to appeal to our State Governor and all security agencies to double more efforts for the quick and unconditional release of our State Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi. Also appealing to the kidnappers to have a human and Godly face for his quick release please.”
