The pastor of the Gracious Covenant Church, known only as Pillar, has come under police scrutiny for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl (name withheld) in Rivers state.
The clergyman’s arrest at the Ndele hamlet, Emohua Local Government Area, was confirmed by the State Police Command.
According to information obtained, Pastor Pillar was detained by police after the victim’s sister-in-law, Amesi ThankGod, complained that the victim’s niece and her mother were members of his church.
ThankGod claims that whenever her mother leaves to the farm, the minor normally attends the church to relax, but with time, they began to observe an unusual behavior in the child.
He claimed that they attempted to determine the cause of the issue, so his wife took the girl’s mother to Pillar to confront him and he confessed to have defiled the girl and also responsible for her pregnancy.
The pastor pleaded with the family to allow him take the girl to where she will abort the child but the family objected.
ThankGod said;
“If her mother goes to the farm, the girl normally goes to the church to relax and returns in the evening. But in the last few days, the girl started vomiting. My wife, who is the victim’s elder sister, took her for a medical examination and the result showed she is pregnant.
“But he (pastor) said they should give her some drugs to flush the pregnancy so that the girl will be free. But if we allow that the girl may die and we have ourselves to blame.”
He claimed that after a vigilante group learned about the situation, they brought the culprit over to the Rumuji Police Division.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police public relations officer, verified the occurrence and stated that an investigation had been opened.
The spokersperson said;
“Yes, we are aware of the incident. The suspect has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.”
