The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) solidified its leadership with the confirmation of Senator Adolphus Wabara and former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, as chairman and secretary respectively of the Board of Trustees (BoT).
Emphasizing the party’s commitment to preventing a slide into a one-party state, Senator Wabara, speaking at the 76th BoT meeting in Abuja, stressed the pivotal role of the PDP in upholding democracy in Nigeria. He stressed the urgency to address internal challenges, asserting that allowing the PDP to falter would endanger democracy itself.
Truth Live News gathered that while acknowledging past shortcomings, particularly in timely disciplinary actions, Senator Wabara urged adherence to the party’s constitution and rules. He highlighted the need for objective decision-making and emphasized the importance of upholding the law to prevent internal strife.
Ambassador Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman, echoed the sentiment of collective responsibility in rebuilding the party, urging all stakeholders to actively protect the PDP’s interests.
The meeting saw the presence of prominent figures including former governors Sule Lamido, Emeka Ihedioha, Achike Udenwa, Babangida Aliyu, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Donald Duke, signifying a unified front in the party’s restructuring efforts.
