It is no longer news that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state on Tuesday held a meeting with 17 out of the 29 Governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP contesting the 2023 gubernatorial election in their respective states.
Details of the meeting with the PDP governorship candidates was held behind close doors at his country home in Obio Akpor LGA of Rivers State have reached us a few hours after it was held.
Although the full details of the meeting remain unknown to the general public, Truthlive.net gathered that it was in a bit to resolving the internal crisis rocking the main opposition party.
A close ally to one of the candidate at the meeting who pleaded not to be mentioned told truthlive.net that the PDP governorship candidates were there to appeal to Governor Wike to lower his demands from presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as well as change his mind on the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and other PDP leaders who had offended him.
Our source also confirmed that the embattled national chairman actually initiated the move to placate Wike, calling the candidates to intervene.
He said: “Ayu actually begged the candidates to intervene and help appeal to Gov Wike to sheath his sword for the interest of the party and country”
But as Wike opened up and told them his own perspectives a number of them were convinced that the Rivers State Gov is fighting a just battle but were weary of the timing”.
However, after the meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Candidates Forum and Governorship Candidate of Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, told journalists that they had a fruitful discussion with Wike, which comes a few days after their meeting with the Presidential Candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, will go a long way in resolving the internal crisis.
He said their next line of action is to meet with the National Working Committee of the party.
The candidates in attendance include that of Kaduna, Plateau, Katsina, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Benue, Sokoto, Jigawa, Borneo and Yobe.
Others are, Kwara, Kanu, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers.
