Majeed Dahiru, a renowned political commentator has blamed the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party over the way the party decided to handle the ongoing crisis within the party. According to Dahiru, the best way for PDP to calm Nyesom Wike down was to replace Iyorchia Ayu with the National Vice Chairman of the party.
Dahiru noted that it is true that if PDP decides to replace Iyorchia Ayu with someone from the southern part of Nigeria like Nyesom Wike and the G-5 governors are demanding, PDP will have to go to a national convention so that new persons can be elected and such a situation would distract PDP in its campaign plans.
However, Dahiru stated that if Iyorchia Ayu is replaced with the national vice chairman of PDP (South-South), who is Chief Dan Orbih, then there will not be a reason for any convention. Dahiru stated that Wike and his camp would have felt better replaced with his vice despite the fact that they want someone from the south.
Dahiru explained that the only problem that Nyesom Wike has with Atiku Abubakar is Iyorchia Ayu and as long as anybody else besides Ayu takes over the position of the national chairman, Wike and the G-5 will be calmer than they currently are. Dahiru went on to say that the role Ayu played during the primary election remains a big issue for Wike and the G-5.
