The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed that smear campaigns and frivolous litigations aimed at derailing their candidate for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, are bound to fail.
Dr. Ighodalo remains the overwhelming favorite among the people of Edo State, as stated in a press release by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, shared with Truth Live News on Sunday.
The PDP has alerted the public about a meticulously planned scheme by certain egocentric and overly ambitious individuals to launch coordinated smear campaigns against Dr. Ighodalo. Frustrated by his emergence as the PDP candidate and his widespread popularity, these individuals are allegedly attempting to induce judicial officers to deliver damaging rulings against him.
“Our Party has uncovered attempts by these unscrupulous elements to compromise the media into publishing fabrications against our candidate and campaign,” the statement reads. The PDP claims to have credible information on clandestine meetings held in Abuja and Benin City, aimed at causing crises and derailing the democratic process leading to the election.
The statement also refutes reports that the PDP’s Governorship Primary in Edo State was nullified by the court, asserting that no such order was issued. The PDP condemned the boasts by these individuals about their ability to manipulate the courts, calling it a direct assault on the democratic will of the people of Edo State.
“The PDP alerts the Institution of the Judiciary, the Media, and Security Agencies to be wary of these elements’ antics and take steps to resist their shenanigans, which pose a clear and present danger to the sustenance of democracy in our country,” Ologunagba emphasized.
Despite these distractions, the PDP remains undeterred. Dr. Ighodalo enjoys the unwavering support of the majority in Edo State and remains focused on his campaign, which aims to usher in a new era of prosperity and development. The PDP calls on the people of Edo State to stay vigilant and committed to their vision by voting en masse for Dr. Asue Ighodalo on September 21, 2024.
