PDP S’South Backs Party’s NWC, Tasks New Leaders On True Reconciliation

Zonal Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in South South on Thursday, 30th in Portharcourt, called for genuine reconciliation within the party while also backing the new leadership of the National Working Committee.

Dr Ilya Umar, former national vice chairman of the party recently took over the running of the PDP after former chairman, Dr Iyochia Ayu was dumped from office.

In a communique signed by Bishop Etim, Zonal Publicity Secretary, the party commended the zonal working committee on the handling of the Ayu matter.

The zonal meeting presided over by national vice chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, recommended the setting up of a Truth and reconciliation committee to achieve lasting Peace and Unity for the progress and growth of the Party.

“We commend the National working committee for its wise handling of Dr. Ayu suspension saga and the subsequent assumption of the office by the Deputy National chairman North, Alhaji Iliya Umar as acting National Chairman.

“We support the National working committee (NWC) decision to reverse the earlier decision suspending prominent leaders and members without due process,” the party communique stated.

The zone called for amicable resolution of all lingering crisis bedeviling the party.

The zonal party block also seized the opportunity to congratulate all newly elected Governors, Senators, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly Members in the South- South.

” Zone appreciates the commendable efforts of all our party leaders, stakeholders and the entire party faithfuls for winning many of the contested seats for the party in the just concluded elections,” the party said.
