People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a monumental victory in Plateau State, winning all 17 local government areas in the recently concluded elections, announced by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC).
Truth Live News gathered that this victory comes as a major turnaround for the PDP, especially for Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who, until this victory, stood as the lone PDP official after the party lost several key seats to the opposition in previous litigation battles.
PLASIEC Chairman, Plangji Cishak, declared the winners and handed them their certificates of return in a brief ceremony held in Jos. The newly elected officials were immediately sworn in, cementing the PDP’s stronghold in the state.
This landslide victory is especially significant as Governor Mutfwang, up until now, had been without PDP representation in the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly. The PDP’s triumph in all local government areas signals a resurgence of the party’s influence in Plateau, and the results are being hailed as a breath of fresh air for the party’s supporters.
However, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized the process. Shittu Bamaiyi, the Acting Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, called the election “a disaster,” accusing PLASIEC and the PDP-led government of malpractice, including delays, voter disenfranchisement, and manipulation of election materials in areas seen as APC strongholds. According to Bamaiyi, ballot papers were deliberately undersupplied in key areas, such as Kanke, Wase, and Pankshin, further claiming that elections did not even take place in some areas, despite the delivery of sensitive materials.
Despite the APC’s grievances, PDP’s victory in all the local governments comes as a crucial political boost for Governor Mutfwang. This unexpected sweep across the state signals a strong mandate for his administration and revitalizes the PDP’s presence, positioning the governor and his party as a formidable force for future elections.
Public sentiment, especially among PDP supporters, is jubilant, seeing this as a validation of the party’s leadership, while the opposition APC is gearing up for legal battles ahead. How this will shape the political landscape of Plateau State remains to be seen.
