In a recent ruling by the Federal High Court of Nigeria, concerns have been raised regarding perceived bias against candidates affiliated with the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr Asue Ighodalo and Barr Osarodian Ogie, just as the party gears up for forthcoming elections.

In a statement made available to Truth Live News, the ruling, issued by Justice I. E. Ekwo, has drawn sharp criticism from the PDP Youth Vanguard, citing allegations of judicial rascality, abuse of power, and a likelihood of bias.

The controversy centers around several cases, including Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/195/2024 and Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/164/2024, involving individuals like Adizetu Hadizat Audrey Abosede Adunni Umoru and Honourable Kelvin Mohammed. These cases, which also implicate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others, have sparked accusations. Alleging that Justice I. E. Ekwo’s decisions have consistently favored opposing parties, to the detriment of PDP interests in Edo State.

In a formal complaint submitted to the Chief Judge’s Chambers, the PDP Youth Vanguard expressed loss of confidence in Justice I. E. Ekwo’s impartiality, alleging that his rulings defy established legal principles and exhibit a clear bias against their party.

The complaint revealed a pattern wherein decisions and orders issued by Justice Ekwo appear detrimental to PDP candidates, raising concerns about the integrity of the judicial process.

As the legal and political landscape heats up ahead of crucial elections, stakeholders within the PDP are calling for a review of Justice Ekwo’s handling of these cases, questioning the fairness and transparency of the judicial proceedings.

Public opinion puts the PDP candidacy of Ighodalo/Ogie ticket as the lead horse in this electoral race. The outcome of these legal battles could significantly impact the electoral prospects of PDP candidates in Edo State, making the integrity of judicial oversight a pivotal issue in the ongoing national discourse.
