The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed a substantial number of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and other political factions in Esan West Local Government Area.

This influx of new members is bolstering the campaign of Barr. Asuerinme Akintunde Ighodalo as he seeks to become the next Governor of Edo State.

Leading the exodus from their former parties, Mr. Adeshino Aremu, Hon. Ken Okosun, Elder Victor Irekpano, Sir Ogbeifun Sunny, and Ms. Stella Alli brought with them over 50 supporters each.

They cited the PDP’s unwavering commitment to public welfare and state development as their primary reasons for switching allegiance. “I openly praise the PDP for its dedication to the welfare of the people and its determination to develop the state,” Adeshino stated.

The PDP leadership in Esan West, spearheaded by the PDP State Campaign Council Director of Operations for Edo Central and Chairman of The Ighodalo Movement For Edo People (TIME), Rt. Hon. Chief Joe Edionwele, Esan West Council Chairman, Hon. Collins Aigbogun, and Esan West PDP Chairman, Hon. Andy Ikhanjiangbe, warmly received the new members. They assured them of equal opportunities within the party.

“The PDP does not relegate anyone, regardless of when they join,” emphasized Chief Edionwele. Hon. Aigbogun added, “The defectors will be given rightful positions and places in the LGA.” Ikhanjiangbe, on behalf of State Chairman Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, formally welcomed the defectors, saying, “I receive you all to PDP.”

This mass defection represents a major blow to the APC, LP, NNPP, and other opposition parties in Esan West, significantly weakening their ranks and diminishing their prospects in the forthcoming election. Political analysts suggest that the PDP’s growing popularity and the surge in defections underscore the party’s dedication to public welfare and state development.
