The capital of Edo State, Benin City, was abuzz with excitement on Tuesday morning as thousands of supporters gathered for a solidarity rally in support of Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming governorship election on September 21.
Starting as early as 7:30 AM, the city’s central Ring Road became a sea of supporters for the “COME AND SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR AI02” rally. Overflowing crowds of Asue/Ogie supporters filled the area, spilling into adjoining streets, singing, chanting, and enthusiastically shouting “Man Wey Sabi.”
The atmosphere took on a carnival-like vibe as Ighodalo and his running mate acknowledged cheers from an open truck, greeting the masses with waves and smiles. The jubilant crowd then moved towards Airport Road, culminating at the PDP Secretariat, where Ighodalo promised to serve the people and urged them to vote for the PDP and protect their votes.
The rally showcased hundreds of support groups adorned in colorful attire featuring images of Asue and Ogie on T-shirts and dresses. The vibrant scene was accentuated by thousands of colorful baseball caps and vehicles equipped with sound systems blaring lively music.
Key members and leaders of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, including Director General Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, Deputy Director of Media and Publicity John Yakubu, Rev. Olu Martins, and State House of Assembly Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, were present to show their support.
The Ring Road rally is expected to remain a significant talking point in the campaign trail as the election approaches in September.
