Just a day after Benin City was flooded with thousands of supporters for Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the town of Igueben, the administrative hub of Igueben LGA in Edo Central, has experienced a similar wave of enthusiasm as thousands switched their allegiance to Ighodalo and the PDP.

Many of these defectors, formerly staunch supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party (LP), and other smaller parties, have cited Ighodalo’s credibility and leadership qualities as their reasons for joining the PDP. “Ighodalo has what it takes to lead the state. He is credible, genuine, and has shown the vision and determination to govern,” said Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo from Ekpon Ward, one of the leaders of the defectors.

Other prominent figures leading the defection include Ayemhenre Obehi, Azamegbe Paragon, and Enemiye Mike. Their move, followed by a large number of supporters, has significantly strengthened the PDP’s presence in the local government area.

Dr. Ighodalo warmly welcomed the new members, expressing his gratitude for their support and promising not to let them down.

This significant shift in allegiance is seen as a major boost for Ighodalo’s campaign, reinforcing his status as a leading contender in the upcoming election.
