Everton have now told Jordan Pickford he can leave Goodison Park – with Chelsea a potential destination for the England international.
That is according to Football Transfers.
According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Chelsea would take a look at signing the Everton No.1 if Edouard Mendy left Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Senegal international has now joined Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, so Pickford is firmly on Chelsea’s list of targets this summer as Mauricio Pochettino eyes a new goalkeeper.
Now, a deal could start to progress after Everton gave the 29-year-old permission to leave Merseyside.
According to Football Transfers, Truth Live News gathered that the Toffees are struggling financially, and must sell players before Sean Dyche can make any new signings.
As a result, Pickford, in addition to Alex Iwobi and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, have been told they can leave this summer.
The Washington-born glovesman, who Everton signed in a £30m deal from Sunderland back in June 2017, kept eight clean sheets in 37 Premier League appearances last season, conceding 57 goals.
The England No.1 boasts great experience for a goalkeeper who hasn’t even turned 30 yet, racking up 248 Premier League appearances and also 54 caps for the Three Lions.
That is what Pochettino needs behind his young defence – Pickford organises his backline better than most, and is a hugely vocal character in between the sticks.
