Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reassured residents of Plateau State that his administration is more determined than ever to ensure no innocent blood is shed in the state following recent killings in Irigwe chiefdom of Bassa LGA.
Mutfwang made this statement during a visit to the two communities in Kwall District of Bassa LGA, Kimakpa and Zike, where over 50 people were killed in an attack by suspected herdsmen on Sunday night, April 13, 2025, with the actual death toll reportedly being 51, according to the Irigwe Youth Movement.
“We are here to pay respect to our fallen ones, who came under the firepower of terrorists and murderers,” he said, adding that the whole nation and international community mourn with the victims’ families.
Mutfwang, accompanied by security chiefs and members of the State Executive Council, shared the pain of the affected communities, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to peace on the Plateau since taking office.
The governor attributed the state’s underdevelopment to years of insurgency and terrorism, assuring that his administration is determined to prevent further bloodshed and ensure justice for the innocent blood shed.
He acknowledged past security lapses but assured that measures have been taken to correct them, promising necessary surveillance and community involvement in security arrangements.
Mutfwang stressed that every community must defend itself, urging the youth to rise to the occasion, while reassuring them that no one will take their land from them.
The paramount ruler of Irigwe chiefdom, Brra Ngwe Irigwe, Ronku Aka, thanked the governor for the visit, appealing for road repairs in the chiefdom, particularly in communities like Kimakpa and Zike
Governor Mutfwang has convened an expanded State Security Council meeting, working closely with the Federal Government, security agencies, and community stakeholders to restore lasting peace to troubled parts of Plateau State.
