A native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, 48, and Uwakwe Eze, 67, have been arrested in Enugu, Nigeria, for the conspiracy and murder of 26-year-old Chikwado Celestine Eze during a ritual at Odugu’s shrine.

The tragic incident occurred when Chikwado, who had recently obtained a visa to travel abroad, was taken by his father, Mr Uwakwe Eze, to the native doctor for a fortification ritual intended to ensure the success of his trip.

According to reports, Chikwado was buried in a coffin during the ritual and died in the process.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident, with Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukwe stating, “The deceased was taken to the shrine for fortification rituals by his father, but he unfortunately died during the process. He was rushed to the hospital and confirmed dead by the attending doctor.”

The native doctor has admitted to performing the ritual and attributed Chikwado’s death to his failure to follow certain prescribed ritual rules. Both Odugu and the deceased’s father are in police custody, and the case remains under investigation. The suspects will face court charges once investigations are concluded.
