But for the vigilance of men of the Nigerian Police in Ilorin, city capital of Kwara, North Central State, Nigeria Vonapolouis Moss, 23, would have been neck deep in harms way after being lured by a suspected scammer into the country.

Moss was found with Awoleye Joshua Oluwatofunmi “m,” 23 years old, of Sabo Oke Road, Ilorin, the man who tricked her into coming to the country all the way from 2962, W 64th Court, Merrillville, Indiana.

The police so far has been vague on the details of matter.

But going by facts of the case, men of the state criminal investigation department of the police on January 12, 2023, at about 1200 hrs, based on actionable intelligence, arrested Oluwatofunmi, within the premises of a hotel along Flower Garden Road, Ilorin, in company of Moss.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is an Internet fraudster known as Yahoo Boys, presented himself to the victim on TikTok, a social media platform, as an American by the name of Howard Adams and ripped her off of about 1000 USD.

“The suspect later took a step further by luring the victim to fly into Nigeria on January 9, 2023, through the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, after which she flew into Ilorin the next day and was received by the suspect,” further explained Paul Odama, Commissioner of Police, CP, of the state while parading the suspect on Friday.

The suspect also deceitfully took an unspecified amount of USD from the victim before she was rescued by police operatives, it was learnt.

“The necessary authorities have been contacted for appropriate action.

“Meanwhile, the rescued victim has been moved into secure custody by the State Police Command pending her return trip to the USA,” Odama said.
