The Portuguese FA has denied media reports that Cristiano Ronaldo has threatened to leave the team’s camp during the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to Record, Ronaldo informed head coach Fernando Santos that he might leave Qatar after being dropped for the last-16 match against Switzerland.
The 37-year-old is said to have eventually calmed down after realizing his departure would have a negative impact on the team.
In a statement, the Portugal Football Federation refuted these claims.
According to the statement: “News released this Thursday reports that Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to leave the national team during a conversation with Fernando Santos, national coach.
“The FPF clarifies that at no time did the captain of the national team, Cristiano Ronaldo, threaten to leave the national team during the internship in Qatar.”
