Toba Owojaiye reporting
Abuja , Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a list comprising eleven judges to the Senate, seeking their confirmation as Supreme Court Justices in Nigeria.
The move comes following reports on November 19th, revealing that the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) had nominated 22 justices from the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court. However, confusion ensued when the National Judicial Council (NJC) disclaimed any knowledge of such a list.
Addressing the situation, Truth Live News reports that President Tinubu has submitted the 11-judge roster to the Senate for approval. The specific names on this list remain undisclosed at the moment.
If the Senate approves the nominated judges, they will assume positions that have remained vacant in the apex court for over four years. This development carries substantial implications for the judicial landscape, marking a critical step in addressing longstanding vacancies and shaping the composition of the Supreme Court.
