Prominent Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Lawal Dies At 59

A prominent Islamic scholar, and member of the Shi’a sect, Sheikh Hamzah Muhammad Lawal, is dead.

The prominent scholar who was the Secretary General of Thaqalayn Cultural Foundation, died at the age of 59, on Thursday night.

His funeral prayer was conducted at his residence in Doctors Quarters, Marafa, Kaduna, after which he was buried at the Bachama road cemetery.

One of his students, Yusuf Bala, who confirmed his death said, he was hail and hearty before his death.

He described him as a father figure who was trust worthy, honest and patient adding, “The late sheikh lived his life impacting knowledge on others.”

Recalling his last moments, he said, “About a month ago, he was giving a series of readings and when he got to the 59 section, he told us that he will be turning 59 years very soon and he did not believe he will live another seven years. He died 32 days later. May Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”

Sheikh Hamzah is survived by his wife and five children.
