Civil servants in Cross River State who have not received their salaries have embarked on protest in Calabar.
In a viral video on social media they are seeing occupying the office of the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh to lay their complaints.
Truth Live News learned some civil servants have not received their January salaries meanwhile, some have collected theirs.
For instance, the unpaid civil servants complained that “The hardship is killing some people already.”
“That is with all this hardship and suffering, Dem no pay salaries o… Children are out of school, no food.”
Moreover,, “Government asked us to go to the SSG office with our names, computer number, and account details among others.”
“When we got there, they did not tell us anything special, hence the agitation you are seeing in that video,” said the civil servants.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has dismissed protest in Calabar by some civil servants in the state over delayed salaries.
While speaking in Calabar on Wednesday, Hon Odey, said they have paid over 80% of workers in the state.
For instance, he said, the duplicate entries caused the delayed in salaries payment for some employees in the state and local government civil service.
Recall the state government had embarked on staff audit owing to “enormous wage bill despite large number of retirements from the service.”
This follows the reconciliation of cleared names from the relevant pay-rolling offices with the nominal roll.
It said “in no distant time the Governmment will make its findings public.
“In the interim, the government appeals to the labour force to see this exercise as birth a glorious future.
Mr. Fred Abua, chief press secretary to the deputy Governor said this in a statement.
He highlighted the commitments of Governor Sen Bassey Edet Otu over his “People First Agenda.”
“When all segments of the state make sacrifices and support the drive,” Governmment will realize transparent and accountable system,” Abua in the statement said.
Nevertheless, the state government acknowledged the difficult times.
“All those whose salaries have been delayed will receive payment in no distant time,” it assured.
